Restoration Theatre

This era of theatre was so unique because of the plays and play writes that were carried out during this time period. It was such a big era because Charles Stuart restored to the throne in 1660 and then he re-opened theatres after they had been on an 18 year ban.  Play writes would often write their plays in comedic ways and often in the plays they would poke fun at any royalists and roundheads.
Comedy was the hall mark of restoration plays as it was such an important thing to people at that time. Classic plays such as Romeo and Juliet were even re-wrote by play writes so that they could have happy endings instead of the traditional way.

Restoration Comedy

Quick pace and also had comedic situations. The comedies were based very much on disguises and some sort of mistaken ID. They were very much involve with trickery and other characters were left in the dark and only left to be revealed until the end. There was also a real exaggeration of the society that they all lived in. Usually the type of audience that would go to the theatre and watch the lays were upper class people, middle class could possibly get away with watching it but anyone lower class would most likely not be welcome to enter the theatre. When performing it would be opposite genders playing each other so it would be males playing female roles and females playing male roles.
