After having our brainstorm in today's lesson, I was walking home and was listening to this song called 'Holy Mountain' by System of a Down. This song is about the Armenian Genocide and i thought that it would be a good idea to post about this as it's a topic that wasn't really spoken about in my group yet this is a crisis that killed millions of people yet more and more people are forgetting. The band went on tour earlier this year (April 2015) as it was the 100th year anniversary of the devastating period of time. Due to this, dedicated the entire tour to raise awareness of the horrific events that took place, hence why the tour was named 'waking the souls' as they believed that it is time to be educate people on what actually happened.
In result of this, it' estimated that 800,000 to 1.5 million innocent people were executed over the course of the Genocide.
"The genocide was carried out during and after World War I
and implemented in two phases: the wholesale killing of the able-bodied
male population through massacre and subjection of army conscripts to
forced labour, followed by the deportation of women, children, the
elderly and infirm on death marches leading to the Syrian desert." - Wikipedia.
